Description
Surface Preparation
- Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, loose particles, rust, laitance or old flaking coatings.
- Concrete/cement surfaces:
- Should be at least 28 days old and fully cured.
- A wood-float finish is preferred.
- Metal surfaces:
- Remove rust and loose paint by wire brushing or mechanical cleaning.
- Tile, bitumen or roofing felt:
- Repair cracks, open joints, blisters and loose felt.
- Ensure the surface is dry before coating.
Priming (If Required)
- Priming may be used on very porous surfaces or aged roofs.
- Allow the primer coat to dry completely before applying SYNROOF HI-BUILD.
Application Methods
- SYNROOF HI-BUILD can be applied by brush, roller, squeegee or spray.
Spray Application
- Minimum nozzle size: 0.028 inch.
- Check that the spray equipment is compatible with high-build acrylic coatings.
- Only slight dilution with clean water is allowed for spraying (avoid over-dilution to prevent clogging or thinning).
Brush/Roller
- Use medium-to-heavy nap rollers.
- Apply evenly and avoid over-working the coating.
Number of Coats & Coverage
- Typically two coats, each at approximately 0.8 kg per square meter (not including primer).
- Apply each coat at right angles to the previous one for uniform coverage.
- Using different colors for each coat helps ensure complete coverage.
Thickness
- Final dry film thickness (DFT): generally 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm, depending on waterproofing requirements.
Reinforcement (For Movement Areas)
Apply reinforcement fabric embedded into the first wet coat in areas that experience movement or stress, such as:
- Joints
- Corners
- Pipes and penetrations
- Edges and upstands
- Cracks or patched sections
Polyester mesh (around 60–80 gsm) is commonly used.
Drying, Recoat, and Curing Times
- Typical recoat time: 24 hours under normal outdoor conditions.
- Full curing (before foot traffic or placing insulation protection): approximately 48 hours.
- Low temperatures or high humidity slow down drying.
Environmental Conditions
- Do NOT apply if the substrate is damp or if rain is expected shortly.
- Minimum application temperature: about 5°C.
- Avoid application in very high humidity or on extremely hot surfaces.
Material Properties (Typical Values)
- Solids content: ~64%
- Density: ~1.3 kg/L
- Viscosity: ~50,000–70,000 cps
- Tensile strength: ~480 N/cm²
- Elongation: ~440%
- Hardness (Shore A): ~68
- Excellent UV and weather resistance
- Service temperature after curing: approximately –5°C to +100°C
